Designing composting toilets for Central Africa
More than 1.5 million people die from diarrhea every year with 90% of those being children under the age of 5.
This was a figure that stuck out to three first year engineering students from UTS who undertook a project to develop composting toilets for residents in Bangui, Cameroon in Central Africa.
The three were part of the Engineering Without Borders challenge, which asks engineering students around the country to develop a research project offering sustainable practices and alternatives for developing countries.
