Dictionary of Sydney: Monuments and Sites Day

Today, April 18th, is the International Day for Monuments and Sites, a time when people around the world celebrate historical, spiritual, and cultural heritage. This year’s theme is ‘Heritage for Generations’, and it also marks the 35th year since the day has started.

Dr Lisa Murray from Dictionary of Sydney spoke to Jess more about some of the significant monuments and sites in Sydney’s history – from the Appin Massacre Memorial, commemorating the 1816 military reprisal raid against Aboriginal people, to Hyde Park’s Archibald Fountain, immortalising the Australian-French relationship in World War I.
