Dictionary of Sydney: Australia Post’s Heritage Building

A rare piece of Sydney’s heritage has been announced to be sold to a foreign developer. The General Post Office in Martin Place has been the centerpiece of Sydney since the early 19th century.

Nicole Cama from Dictionary of Sydney joins Tess in the studio to take us through the beautiful and rich history of the GPO building, from its humble beginnings as a police headquarter to Sydney’s first telephone exchange.

In the 1990s the building was leased out by Australia Post to become the cafes, hotels, restaurants and shops which still inhabit the building today.
