Disparity in reporting on women’s issues worldwide: Research
According to the World Health Organisation one in three women worldwide experience physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime, mostly by an intimate partner.
But how is this issue reflected in media reporting in the Global North and Global South?
Dr Andrea Baker – Senior Lecturer in Journalism at Monash University, says women located in the Global South have been largely ignored in mainstream media’s reporting of violence against women despite the issue being felt more in these regions.
