Calls have been made by the national voice for cultural diversity in the arts, Diversity Arts Australia, to introduce ‘diversity targets’ into the sector, in a bid to increase representation on boards by 2024.

With their released “Shifting the Balance” report, a collaboration with Western Sydney University and the BYP Group, Diversity Arts Australia has found a largely non-inclusive, non-representational arts industry when it comes to boards and director roles.

Executive director, Lena Nahlous says targets will help those in the sector ‘break the glass ceiling’ and open up opportunity to advancing up the ladder.

Breakfast spoke with Lena Nahlous about the impacts of a non-diverse arts industry at the top level, and the realities of creating inclusivity in coming years.
