Do The Family Courts Require Reform?
Recently, Senator Pauline Hanson has argued that fathers often receive unfavourable deals from the family court with mothers denying them contact with their children.
However this is in fact untrue, as it is extremely unlikely for fathers to be denied contact with their children as evidence would imply, with only 3% of all court orders in 2014 resulting in fathers being denied contact with their children. Pauline Hanson’s unsupportive claims appear to be the driving force behind the latest parliamentary inquiry into family courts which calls for reforms.
On The Daily we were joined by Dr Henry Kha, Lecturer at the Macquarie Law School of Macquarie University to discuss the type of reform that is needed within Australia’s Family Courts.
