Dual Citizenship in Parliament: Is the Constitution Outdated?

Under section 44 of the constitution act, it ‘disqualifies potential candidates from election to the Parliament of Australia if they hold dual or plural citizenship’. This week, multiple members of parliament have been obliged to resign from their positions due to this act being enforced. But is it really necessary? Does dual or plural citizenship define one’s sense of what it means to be Australian? We spoke to Dr Bligh Grant, a senior lecturer from the University of Technology Sydney to answer our questions.
