Effects test for Competition and Consumer Act criticised
The Productivity Commission has issued a statement criticising the Government’s proposal to add an effects test to the Competition and Consumer Act. They say the government’s claimed benefits for farmers are overstated, and existing laws are adequate to protect farmers from big business. But many small businesses were looking forward to the effects test, believing it would protect them from anti-competitive practices of large businesses.
