Curved Radio :: 10:00pm 19th Dec 2021

Coming up this weekend on 2ser’s Curved Radio with Gayle Austin & the Curvy crew, we have a very special extended conversation between Sydney, Brisbane and Los Angeles with author, music journalist, multi-instrumentalist and a man of many fantastic hats and musical stories, John Kruth.

John has written a number of music books and biographies, with his 2000 volume Bright Moments – The Life and Legacy of Rahsaan Roland Kirknow recently released in its second edition. John speaks about his book of this extraordinary life and musician, but also free ranges across an amazing array of music-related topics!

A few other titles he’s written are, “To Live’s To Fly – The Ballad of the Late, Great Townes Van Zandt” (2007), Hold On World – the Lasting Impact of John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s Plastic Ono Band (2021), “Rhapsody in Black – The Life & Music of Roy Orbison” (2013) to name just a few. He’s a regular contributor to periodicals Wax Poetics, Please Kill Me and his work has been published in New York Times, Rolling Stone, Wire among many others. He was Adjunct Professor of Music at Manhattan College and the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York where he taught for a number of years. As a musician he’s released numerous solo albums, is one of the 10-piece New York-based world music ensemble TriBeCaStan and as a sideman has worked with Laurie Anderson, Violent Femmes, John Prine, King Missile, Hal Willner, Patti Smith, Allen Ginsberg, Elizabeth Swados, Sam Shepard and Ornette Coleman to name just a few. Phew!

Curvies, if you love music in all shapes and sizes and flavours and of course you do otherwise you wouldn’t be hip to the Curve, you have to tune in for this.

We’ll also cross to mr.K in Brisbane who also has some new treats to share with some cosmic folk deliciousness from Portugal- based Beautify Junkyards released via Ghost Box Records, a new song from the enigmatic and always brilliant The Mañana People who hide out in Bonn, Germany and also based in Germany, a brand new release from one of our long-time Curvy faves, Viktor’s Joy. Released on the Grainy Records independent label, this stunning album release, called Dog Walker has been so eagerly awaited that mr.K feels like he’s in Seventh Heaven now and all is right with the world!

Gayle keeps the Curved Radio controls set to the heart of Curvy in the Sydney studio as she does serving up lots of treats and musical surprises.

Listen to the livestream via 2SER from 10pm Sydney, AU time this Sunday or via catch-up through the 2ser website. Check the world clock for times at your place!
