In the Polynesian kingdom of Tonga, indigenous transgender women known as Leitis have long been revered as royal attendants and family caretakers. However, a recent rise in religious fundamentalism is threatening their very existence. In this episode, Patrick and Ruby are joined by Joeleen Mataele, a Leiti of noble blood who founded the Tonga Leitis Association and is leading the fight for equal rights through hosting a joyful and hilarious beauty pageant, challenging a popular homophobic preacher, and traveling all the way to the United Nations to draw attention to their plight.
