The global Kpop fandom is emerging as strong allies of the Black Lives Matter movement. From donations to doxxing campaigns, Kpop fandoms have demonstrated an incredible ability to mobilise across social media to stand up against racism and police brutality. But Kpop music and its fans have a sometimes uncomfortable history with race.

We’re joined by Miranda Ruth Larsen, PhD candidate at the University of Tokyo, to chat hashtag hijacking; unpacking racism in fan cultures; and why the media depicts Kpop fans as screaming white girls.
