As of early May this year ferries that run from Ettalong to Palm Beach have been cancelled and diverted until further notice due to an increase of sand in the Ettalong Channel. With no dredging scheduled anytime soon, the future of the Ettalong Channel is unknown.

This service is crucial to the people on the Central Coast, some students and teachers even travelling from Ettalong to school on the Northern Beaches. The pressing question for waterway users now is: who is responsible for fixing this navigational channel?
