European Royalty: Inspiration for ‘House of the Dragon’
HBO’s new series House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones. The wildly successful series is adapted from books written by George R. R. Martin, whose stories are inspired by the history of Europe and its royal families.
While dragons weren’t real, the stories of madness, incest and tragedy are all based in fact.
Dr. Kristie Flannery and Dr. Sarah Bendall are Research Fellows at the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at Australian Catholic University and they explained the true history behind the world and characters for ‘House of the Dragon’.
