Eurovision: Asia? The Globalisation of Eurovision with Prof. Patrikeeff

Eurovision Song Contest was conceived to unify Europe – instead the troubles of the Eurozone are reflected in the competition’s boycotts, protest songs and bloc voting. Yesterday, SBS announced that Eurovision is coming to Asia, and that Australia will host the first ever Asian Eurovision. Asia-Pacific is no stranger to geopolitical tensions. So with the South China Sea crisis; frayed relationships; and the threat from North Korea…what might an Asian Eurovision look like? Associate Professor Felix Patrikeeff from the University of Adelaide discusses Asian song contests and gives his predictions for the success of Eurovision Asia.
