Exercise Wallaby 2019 and Bilateral Ties
A week ago today, thousands of soldiers from the Singapore Armed Forces, or SAF, landed at Shoalwater Bay in Rockhampton, Queensland for Exercise Wallaby, a bilateral exercise together with the Australian Defence Forces, involving all three military branches of both nations – the Army, Navy, and Air Force. It’s the largest overseas operation for the SAF, and has been conducted annually around this time since 1990. The Asia-Pacific is a key to trade routes all around the world, so collaborative operations like Ex-Wallaby help strengthen Australia’s international ties. Dr. John Blaxland, Professor of International Security & Intelligence Studies, Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at Australian National University, explained.
