False Health Claims – Baby Formula Products
Science experts from The ANU and Deakin University warn that baby formula companies are manipulating parents’ concerns for their child’s health and development through exploitative advertising tactics.
They argue that the current self-regulated and voluntarily code for manufacturers of infant formula products is not strong enough to overcome commercial marketing techniques. Therefore, there is a call for more active promotion for breastfeeding to improve health which can also prolong night-time sleep.
Breastfeeding is highly recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) but only a third of Australian mothers choose to follow this guideline.
