New American strategy for Afghanistan and what it means for us

Earlier this week President Trump announced a new military strategy for the United States’ armed forces in Afghanistan. This is the nation’s longest war and the decision to commit more resources and troops rather than withdraw has come a surprise for some, as previously President Trump has expressed the nation’s involvement as an “utter disaster”. What will this strategy involve? How will it affect Australia’s involvement in the conflict? The Director of the National Security Institute at the University of Canberra and former Chief of Army from 2002 to 2008 Peter Leahy joined The Daily to discuss these questions.
