Eye Pigmentation is Linked to a Risk Of Melanoma
Many characterise Australian culture as the beach, sun and surf. While these are all true, a risk comes to living this type of life and that risk is Melanoma. Many of us are familiar with Melanoma as it is a risk that we are always reminded of through health warnings and catchy slogans like slip, slop, slap. Recently researchers from Queensland University have found a link between pigmentation in the iris and a high risk of melanoma. The study involved 117 participants of European background living in South-East Queensland and found that the association was particularly strong in people under 40. The Daily was joined by Associate Professor Rick Sturm to discuss more about these findings.
