Deity by Emma Volard

 

The Feature Album this week on 2SER is from Naarm/Melbourne singer/songwriter Emma Volard.

Recorded between Melbourne and Phillip Island with close friends, guitarist, Harry Leggatt, Deity is a rich and lush debut, filled with soul and electronic jazz instrumentation, forming the backdrop to a wonderfully dynamic album which lyrically addresses pain, loss and the human condition.

However, musicality is the centrepiece of this: synthesisers and guitars interplay with percussive arrangements that have a morphing RnB sensibility, and this a splendid record with a wide range of interconnecting styles.

Brilliant debut and highly recommended.
