FEATURE ALBUM

I like you a lot getting older by Hard-Ons

The Feature Album this week on 2SER is I like you a lot getting older by Sydney punk-rock mainstays Hard-Ons.

Words by Josh Ray

The Hard-ons aren’t new to this, with a lot of material under their belt (fifteen albums in fact) since forming in 1984 in Punchbowl. Since that time, they’ve gone on to become one of the country’s most cherished live performers.

As with any Hard-Ons record, I Like You A Lot Getting Older is as high-octane as it is catchy, heeding influence from glam, punk, metal and bubblegum surf-pop. It’s a record that compels you to twist the volume knob on your louder speaker until it hits its maximum.

Look no further than lead single ‘Buzz Buzz Buzz’, which, despite the fact that its chorus is largely devoid of vocals, will no doubt linger in your head with its non-stop shrill riffage. The same goes for 6-minute closing track ‘Pushover’, which slows its tempo to deliver one of the most cathartic tracks you might expect from any punk band.

Once again, I could go on and on, but there’s only so much my descriptions can do for you. That’s a job for the loudest speaker you own.
