FEATURE ALBUM
Look Familiar by The Green Child
The Feature Album this week on 2SER is Look Familiar, by The Green Child, the quartet made up Angel Mahon, Mikey Young, Shaun Gionis and Alex Macfarlane.
The Green Child take their name from the Herbert Read novel of the same name, and originally met in Oakland, California in the early 2010s, and are currently based between Naarm and Rye (Mornington Pen.).
For their third studio record, the four-piece enter a world of technicolour and uptopian dreamscapes, filled with chiming guitars, pulsing rhythms and sweeping synthesisers. As Mikey Young explains:
“for this record, half the musical ideas stemmed from Raven, half from myself. I felt like we discussed things more and fleshed out ideas together and brought in Alex and Shaun for their input all the time. I see it as a step forward in many ways but at times, it felt like an entirely new thing. It’s inspiring to make music with others, to find a new combination of ingredients to make music feel fresh.”
It’s a consumate journey from end to end, highly recommended.
Look Familiar is out now via Hobby’s Galore (AU) and Upset the Rhythm (EU) on a variety of formats.
