FEATURE ALBUM

Oh Dear by Isolde Lasoen

The Feature Album this week on 2SER is the sophomore solo outing from Belgian percussionist and vocalist Isolde Lasoen.

As the the longstanding drummer for DAAN, Lasoen has branched out into her own writing over the last decade, and Oh Dear was entirely self-written, and a conscious effort to dive deeper to refine her own sound as a solo artist.

And it’s paid of in spades here. While rooted in the classical euro-pop motifs of the 60s and 70s, it’s distinctly modern sounding record,  and is gorgeously recorded and arranged: guitar, strings, piano and vibraphone lend a lot of melodic and emotive texture, punctuated by excellent drum sections, which is where Lasoen’s obvious natural talent for rhythm come through (check out the Gamesbourg-esque “Batterie” for this in particular).
