Federal Government announces $180M commitment for independent news publishers
Today, the Federal government announced a multi-million dollar commitment to support public interest journalism, through the independent and community media sector.
Hundreds of local news outlets have been scaled back or closed entirely in the past five years, leaving countless news blackspots nationwide.
Minister for Communications Michelle Rowland confirmed extra funding for the community media sector, as well as a News Assistance Program, allowing news outlets to address the specific needs of their unique audiences.
