Is Federalism the Path to Better Medicare?

In the current year, health funding is one of the most significant budgetary challenge facing Australian governments. State governments’ are continuously calling for the Turnbull government to address a perceived gaps in coverage. In order to this there has been a demand to fully reverse the so-called $50 billion ‘cuts’ to federal funding and for the GST to be increased from 10% to 15% to fund the long-term cost of hospital services. Effectively this would be a 50% tax hike, and would be the largest single peacetime taxation increase in Australian history. The Daily was joined by  Jeremy Sammut, the Director of the Centre for independent Studies Healthcare Innovations Program to offer some potential solutions
