Garth Davis chats about Mary Magdalene

It wouldn’t be Easter without the release of one or two films with biblical themes and this year is no exception.

This week sees the release of director Garth Davis’s sophomore feature Mary Magdalene, starring Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix.

Mary Magdalene isn’t your orthodox biblical film. It offers a distinctly more feminist and humanist perspective on the story of Jesus through the eyes of one of history’s most unfairly maligned women.

With the collapse of The Weinstein Company Garth Davis has had his own road to Calvary experience trying to get this film into cinemas.
