Gender Equality On Australian Screens and Behind the Scenes
In August this year, Screen Australia celebrated their significant work in gender equality with its Gender Matters program exceeding its original key performance indicator target with 56% of projects with women occupying at least half of the creative roles throughout the filmmaking process.
Screen Australia has recently announced the latest recipients of their feature film production funding, and out of the 5 projects funded this time round, none of them employed a female director or writer. And so while great strides are being made for gender equality in the film industry, it appears things are far from being equal.
Dr Cathy Henkel, Director of Western Australia’s Screen Academy at Edith Cowan University, joined us on The Daily to talk about gender equality within Australia’s film landscape.
