Gender Inequality In the Music Industry Remains Rife
In Australia, there has been a push towards reducing gender inequality in the workplace. However, women in the music industry are still experiencing overt gender biases. A recent study released by Berklee Institute of Music found that 78% of women in the industry felt that they were treated differently to their male counterparts. Recently in Sydney, there has been a push towards having all-female line-ups; an effort to increase opportunities for female artists to perform. While these events offer exposure for local female artists, do these events enhance a gender division and put less pressure on male artists to include female support acts?
