Gender Representation in Sydney’s Art Galleries
Yesterday the 2019 Countess Report was released, measuring gender representation in Australia’s art galleries, museums and exhibitions. The report was compiled by artists Elvis Richardson, Amy Prcevich and Miranda Samuels, who found that women are now equally represented in a number of spaces.
The findings are positive compared to the 2016 report which measured a vast imbalance between male and female representation in the sector. However non-binary representation continues to remain quite low – especially in state galleries.
Kate Atkinson spoke to Amy Prcevich about the changes.
