Get Away with Dre: New Hiking Trails Opening in 2025
Love exploring new trails? Looking for new places to go this year? Pop these on your radar for places-to-go in 2025.
Snowies Alpine Walk, Mt Kosciuszko National Park
This has been a long time coming and in the works for a few years – it finally just opened towards the end of last year. The Snowies Alpine Walk is an expansion of the existing tracks in the Mt Kosciuszko and Thredbo-Perisher area, linking them all to the alpine villages of Guthega, Charlotte Pass and Perisher Valley.
The walk takes you to the summit of Australia’s highest mountain and across the alpine roof of NSW to finish at Thredbo Valley near Lake Crackenback.
It’s 56kms of world class trail and made to promote summer-time visitors to this winter destination.
Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk, Byron Bay
This one is set to open early this year. Formally known as the Tweed Byron Hinterland Walk, Gidjuum Gulganyi translates to Old People’s Track, and takes you through ancient Gondwanan rainforest and along the rim of a volcano.
The trail links Mt Jerusalem National Park, the Whian Whian State Conservation and Nightcap National Park in the North Coast.
It’s 35.6kms in total, with an additional 12.2kms of side tracks to add to the adventure. The trail flows in one direction starting at Manns Road before heading south to Minyon Falls. It’ll take you 3 nights, 4 days to complete.
Uluru-Kata Tjuta Signature Walk, Northern Territory
It doesn’t get more Aussie than the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. This is a 4-day guided walk through the heart of our country, designed to educate and immerse walkers to the culture of the traditional owners of the land.
The Australian Walking Company, Parks Australia and the traditional owners of the land have collaborated to map a 50km trail running from west to east. Not only will the trail be interesting and adventurous, but the accommodation looks inviting too. Think high quality, off-the-grid, sustainable-living tents. All camping locations selected have been approved by the traditional land owners.
This has all been in the works between 2019-2021 and will finally open somtime this year. Bookings are now open.
Murray River Adventure Trail, Murray River, Victoria
Spanning the entire length of the Murray River, from Lake Hume to Mildura, this multi-adventure trail is not just for the walkers. Cyclists and paddlers can enjoy this trail is well!
This will have 16 trailheads you can choose to start from. Currently 8 existing campgrounds will get a facelift and they will be adding new canoe and kayak launch pads along the trail.
Construction will start this year so we can look forward to enjoying these trails towards the end of year.
