As part of Vivid Sydney 2019, the GIRLGAMER Esports Festival, will be returning for its third year in Sydney (the event took place in Portugal in 2018, and Macau in 2017). The festival will celebrate the talent and success of women in video gaming, and teams will compete for a chance to be flown to Dubai for the World Finals.

The esports and video game industry is a largely male-dominated field, presenting challenges for female gamers to earn the recognition they deserve. On Drive, Annabel Kwan (Punzie) from the Australian Esports League and creative director for the event, spoke to Stephen Hill about her views and hopes for women in the gaming industry, and what we can anticipate at Girl Gamer Sydney.
