Deported for losing your temper and threatening someone? That’s the reality that could face people holding visas in Australia if the government moves ahead with laws to expand their deportation powers. A senate committee is currently reviewing the laws and are set to deliver their verdict on Friday, before the government decides whether to push forward or amend the proposal. Advocates are calling for the government to scrap the laws – saying they add nothing to the already draconian scheme in place. We chat to Dr Louise Boon-Kuo from Sydney University about the bill.
