Government Addresses Pay Secrecy – Gender Pay Gap
The Federal Labor Government has signed off on their new workplace bill, the “Secure Jobs, Better Pay Bill”.
Workplace Minister Tony Burke has stated that the bill will be used to put mechanisms in place to address the gender pay gap.
The bill is also confirmed to be implementing a ban on pay secrecy clauses, which are used by employers to ensure that their workers do not discuss pay with each other.
There is much discussion about the decision to ban these clauses and whether the bill is well enough equipped to handle the issue of gender pay inequality.
