Government’s National Autism Strategy raises concerns over support gaps
$42.2 million – that’s how much the Federal government has pledged over seven years for Australia’s first National Autism Strategy.
The strategy focuses around four main pillars (social inclusion, economic inclusion, diagnosis, services and support, and health) and 22 commitments .
While the strategy has received a mixed reaction, its also raised questions around facilitation when it comes to addressing important gaps.
Nicole Rogerson, CEO of Autism Awareness Australia, peak body for autism families says she’s concerned the strategy doesn’t target some areas, including supports for young people and their families, who have reported losing their NDIS packages.
