Grand Tour (review)
A new film by Portuguese director Miguel Gomez continues his eccentric perspectives, with a story exploring two bumbling 19th century European aristocrats in their journey across Asia. “Grand Tour” focuses on a traditional right of passage similar to a gap year in which Englishmen of means would travel across Asia to garner a better understanding of the world.
This leads to a film that mixes the imagery of classic cinema with images from contemporary Asian cities, producing an interesting fusion of fiction and documentary.
Stephen Hill reviews “Grand Tour” which gets its cinematic release in Australia on February 13.
