Grattan Institute Finds ‘Jobs for Mates’ Culture in Appointments to Government Bodies

Political transparency has been a hot button issue recently, with the Labor government, the Greens, and Teal Independents centering corruption and integrity as a major federal election focus.
A new report from the Grattan Institute has investigated the issue of political appointments to government boards, agencies and regulators.
Its found that 21% of appointees to well paid, powerful and prestigious government board positions have previously worked in politics.
