Hannah McKittrick Chats ‘Utensil’, Her Creative Process and Coffee Orders
If you’ve tuned into my show before, there’s a high chance you’ve heard a song or two by Hannah McKittrick.
She’s a musician and radio presenter from Naarm/Melbourne, who is hot off the back of the release of her latest single, “Utensil”.
Her 2022 album, ‘the day has again bruised me’, is a mesmerising and emotional album that expertly captures feelings of loss, intimacy and emotional turbulence. This is a release to be admired, as Hannah delicately carves out her sound using a distinct and masterful combination of folk, acoustic and ambient sounds. Accompanied by her pinching lyrics, Hannah’s voice guides you through the album gently, holding your hand as you walk through the visceral ups and downs of life alongside her. This album remains a solid and impressive collection of tracks, showcasing her musicality and cohesivity as an artist.
After almost two years, she’s returned to release her latest single “Utensil”. This anthemic and meditative track serves as a reminder to “hold things gently.” Written after a stellar Armlock show, the song was born out of reflections on health and the need to relinquish control to a certain degree. There’s a noticeable shift in tone compared to her debut, which McKittrick puts down to taking a more “zoomed out” and observational perspective when crafting lyrics
She joined me this week on the show, to chat all about our coffee orders, her creative process and heading on tour with the lovely Angie McMahon
