Hardening insurance market pricing out artists and arts workers
Artist insurance is a vital part of safe working conditions for people in the arts.
But this important coverage was recently threatened. Local community and insurance services including QBE Insurance made changes to their policies so that artists could no longer use equipment that produce and open flame for example, among other things.
Artists remain vulnerable over these insurance cuts.
The National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) fought these changes and in less than a week it was announced that insurance companies would reverse the changes.
Penelope Benton, NAVA’s Executive Director, explained the changes to artist insurance to RTRFMs Danae Gibson.
