Do we Hate our Speech Laws?
Same sex marriage has provoked heated comments on both sides of the debate, as the government gears up for a plebiscite on the issue after the next federal election. The Australian Christian Lobby has said this week it wants anti-discrimination laws overridden, so it can robustly debate the issue, without fear of legal action.
The comments have drawn the ire of same sex marriage campaigners, as well as Australian Human Rights Commission President Gillian Triggs, who has labelled their request ‘disgraceful’.
