Health Complications in Caesarean Babies

Were you born by C-section? Did you know there is a correlation between caesarean birth and some short and long term health conditions? We chatted to Hannah Dahlen, Professor of Midwifery and Higher Degree Research Director at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, from Western Sydney University. She told us about a new global study of 500000 births that’s discovered that babies born via caesarean are actually more likely to suffer from hypothermia, diabetes, obesity, eczema and respiratory infections, to name a few.

Getting a caesarean section isn’t always the “easier” option either- it’s a risky business that can lead to complications for the mother.  Professor Dahlen explained why natural births – when safe to do – are preferable for both the health of the baby and mother.
