Health workers worried Covid-19 will surge as regional travel resumes

Medical professionals are concerned about how regional health systems will cope with an expected increase in Covid-19 patient admissions when NSW regional travel resumes next month.

A state parliamentary inquiry into health outcomes and access to health and hospital services in rural, regional, and remote New South last September showed a significantly flawed system.

Health experts are worried Covid-19 cases could put an additional burden on limited hospital beds and ICU wards as well as patient transport systems to and from regional hospitals.

The NSW government is confident regional health services will manage.
