History of Mardi Gras

For many, Mardi Gras represents pure celebration… the costumes, the dancing, the drinking. However, for the LGBTQIA+ community, it is a powerful symbol of something more … their history, love and activism, and of course, a chance to celebrate the 78ers. It shines a global spotlight on the lives of LGBTQIA+ people, as well as their culture, creativity, and communities.

2SER Breakfast host Alex James spoke with Scott McKinnon, Vice President of the Pride History Group, to discuss the history of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
