Homelessness in women and abuse victims owing to the cost of living crisis

Australia is currently seeing a rise in homelessness due to the increased cost of living conditions in the country. One of the common factors for this crisis is family, domestic and sexual violence, which causes fear and trauma so intense that women abandon their homes to seek refuge.

Annabelle Daniel, CEO of Women’s Community Shelters discusses how women, children and abuse victims are affected by the rising interest rates and homelessness. She has been working for this cause for over 15 years and has successfully opened 10 shelters across NSW to help women have a safe roof over their heads. She also, chairs the Domestic Violence NSW organisation, the peak body for domestic and family violence services in the state.
