How AI Can Deepen Social Inequality

Artificial Intelligence and algorithms have crept into almost every aspect of our lives. And with such pervasiveness we must ask the question – can these algorithms be trusted? Unfortuantely, biases in AI algorithms can be repeated and magnified exponentially, causing what is known as “algorithmic bias”.

The Gradient Institute is a not-for-profit research organisation promoting ethical AI systems. They have recently co-authored a paper outlining how businesses can avoid algorithmic bias in their AI systems. Their Chief scientist is Professor Tiberio Caetano, and he joined us to tell us more about algorithmic bias and how it can be avoided.
