Tackling Coffee Waste: A Sustainable Coffee Future

It’s the favoured start to every day, the redeeming brew we cusp between our hands with colleagues every morning, the centrepiece of every casual catch up. Coffee. We can’t live without it. However, unfortunately, every double shot cinnamon latte we consume contributes to an overwhelming six million tonnes of spent coffee grounds going to landfill every year.

Dr. Tien Huynh claims we shouldn’t fret, encouraging individuals and communities make an effort to turn coffee waste into valuable commodities such as chemicals, feedstocks or even health supplements.

Joining The Daily to discuss sustainable coffee methods and greener communities is Dr. Tien Huynh, a senior lecturer at the School of Sciences at RMIT University Melbourne.
