How will cashless gaming cards in NSW work?
Have you been following the news about cashless gaming cards? This certainly has been an issue to watch in the lead up to this Saturday’s election in NSW.
In order to tackle money laundering, addiction and other consequences associated with problem gambling, current Premier Dominic Perrotet has vowed to introduce a cashless gaming card.
Leader of the opposition Chris Minns is proposing a less ambitious reform, which includes a trial of the cashless gaming card, but only on a limited basis.
So, do these cards work? And why are they different from using cash?
We spoke to Professor of Psychology Sally Gainsbury. Sally is the Director of the Gambling Treatment and Research clinic at the University of Sydney and the founder and leader of the Technology Addiction Team at the Brain and Mind Centre.
