Hutchison Ports E-sack half the workforce by email at midnight

In a return to the old confrontational style of industrial relations, Hutchison Ports have used the electronic medium of sending an email to inform workers that they are out of a job.
Not even allowed to enter the site to retrieve their belongings, the Maritime Union of Australia is backing their workers in this dispute, and a picket was established at both Hutchison sites in Brisbane and Sydney.
