Immigrant parents want to help their kids go to uni, but need more support
A new study talked with parents at a Western Sydney school and it asked: what could help them help their kids head to TAFE or uni.
Studying post-school can open doors all through life. But young people from migrant families often give up on further study, if they don’t have support from their families.
Dr Rayan Merkbawi, Lecturer in Business Management and organisations studies at UTS Business School, recently led a study that worked with immigrant parents in Western Sydney. The study explored their hopes and also their challenges, in encouraging their kids to get a tertiary education.
Dr Merkbawi joined the Thursday Daily this morning to share what she found.
