Indigenous History Being Dismissed in Schools
Ask any Australian school student who Captain Cook is, and they would probably be able to tell you. But ask them what they know about the history of massacres against Indigenous Australians and you’d be hard pressed to find a student who knows much at all.
Education experts say that Indigenous history is being glossed over in favour of STEM subjects. The result is entire student populations with almost no understanding of the history, resistance and survival of Indigenous nations.
Senior Research Fellow, Kevin Lowe spoke to The Daily on this issue.
