Indigenous Women Freed From Prison Following A Crowdfunding Campaign To Pay Off Their Overdue Fines
Indigenous women imprisoned in Western Australia to ‘pay off’ overdue fines will be freed after a crowdfunding campaign raised over $100, 000 to assist the women in paying off the debt. The campaign, launched by Queensland based advocacy group, Sisters Inside has gained the support of donors across the nation as well as international donors. The original target of assisting 100 women has been reached and the group is now looking to expand the campaign. The Daily spoke to Sisters Inside Chief Executive, Debbie Kilroy, who joined us on the line to discuss the issue further.
