Inspiring the next generation of AFL Indigenous players

The Sir Doug Nicholls round in AFL highlights the extensive contribution of Indigenous Australians to our nation’s game. However, it also serves as an occasion to reflect on how far football and Australian society has to go.

Indigenous health and wellbeing is a pressing issue in society and sports such as AFL can serve as a pathway to prosperity. The AFL has recognised the well-represented Indigenous community in the league and have created programs to assist young members of the Indigenous community.

Nic spoke with Charlee-Sue Frail, the AFL Indigenous programs manager about how the code is working to inspire the next crop of Indigenous players and also how good representation in sport can help elevate the national conversation about race.
